Part of Ordlo Wholesale Documentation
Ordlo Wholesale gives you precise control over how tax works for your B2B customers. You can collect VAT numbers at checkout, validate EU numbers automatically, exempt specific customers from tax, and show prices differently to wholesale vs retail customers.
Adding a VAT Number Field at Checkout
Go to Ordlo Wholesale → Settings → Checkout VAT. Options include showing the field for all countries or only selected ones, making it required or optional, and applying a format validation pattern.
The VAT number is saved against the order and shown in order details for both admin and customer.
VIES Validation (EU VAT Numbers)
Ordlo Wholesale can check EU VAT numbers against the EU VIES database at checkout:
- Validate only — the result is recorded but doesn’t automatically affect tax.
- Auto-exempt on pass — tax is removed automatically when the number passes VIES. Useful for zero-rating intra-EU B2B sales.
Tax Exemption
| Method | How to set it |
|---|---|
| Group-level exemption | Enable tax exemption in the group’s settings — all members are exempt |
| Individual customer | Set VAT/tax status to “Approved” on the customer’s record in Ordlo Wholesale → Customers |
| Automatic VIES | Turn on “auto-exempt on pass” — applies when a customer’s EU VAT number validates at checkout |
Different Tax Displays for B2B and Retail
You can show prices including tax to retail customers and excluding tax to wholesale customers — or any combination. This is controlled in Ordlo Wholesale → Settings → Store Controls and works independently of WooCommerce’s global tax display settings.
Invoice and PDF Plugin Integration
Most invoice or PDF plugins that work with WooCommerce will automatically pick up the VAT data Ordlo Wholesale saves to each order. If your invoice plugin needs configuring, look for a setting related to WooCommerce order meta, or contact that plugin’s support team and mention the hook ordlo_wholesale_checkout_tax_order_meta.
